PEBBLE BEACH RESIDENCE
The project, located in Pebble Beach California, is on a sloping site with significant coastal views. The site also includes several landmark oak trees and a natural dry creek which bisects the property. These elements became an important consideration for the design solution. The client’s overriding design objective was to seamlessly join their physical needs and lifestyle with the environment. Most importantly they wanted to capture and give focus to the views. The design approach utilized an entry level / lower-level plan to address the downhill slope. Major uses were located at the upper entry level to obtain better views. The plan was designed to maintain significant oak trees and was split apart so the dry creek could remain uninterrupted. A glass bridge reconnects the upper level framing a view of the ocean.
The most significant design element is the “Great Window” in the living area. Its 30’ of floor to ceiling glass was designed to merge the built and natural environment. The window is uniquely canted towards Point Lobos, the most significant view of the Monterey Peninsula. Architectural details and elements, material selections and color palette come together to create a new foundation for this home’s connection to the surrounding environment.
