CARMEL POINT RESIDENCE

The project consisted of designing a new home for a couple retiring from Southern California. The Carmel Point site’s best quality are views to the ocean.

The primary design concept was to organize the new home in such a way that all rooms had a view and included outdoor living space that was protected from ocean wind. The site itself was challenging because of its triangular shape, several landmark cypress trees, sloping topography and restrictive Carmel Point design guidelines. The design concept took advantage of the lots shape by stepping the building forms to create maximum exposure to the ocean. The outdoor living space was incorporated on the south east side of the building form for sun exposure and wind protection.

A strong emphasis was placed on coordination the interior and exterior architecture to ultimately create fluid movement between indoor to outdoor and between interior spaces.
